Absence of FCAT Accommodations for Child with Disability Drives Parent to Consider Home Schooling

By A Hillsborough Parent

My son has a disability and a 504 plan which clearly states that he can use a keyboard for written standardized tests. He also had a provision on the 504 to take the test in a small group for organizational concentration. He was not encouraged or allowed either of these requirements. 504 bonuses are much more important than the well-being of our children. Zero-tolerance is as detrimental to the freedom of being a child. School should not be like Military Boot Camp. Uniforms, kids in straight lines, no taking or they get conduct points, snitching is required on fellow school mates. Bullying, however, seems to be overlooked. Home schooling is looking better by the month. -- Hillsborough parent
