FCAT Stresses

By Donna Clinger

My daughter is in 3rd grade this year. Up until this year she was a straight A student. Her grades have slightly declined this year partly because of the stress that is placed on her for FCAT. "no child left behind" is not a true statement because if the child fails they get left behind to face another year of FCAT. The money being spent on FCAT can be used for more 1 on 1 tutoring or small group tutoring, for those who are having difficulties. We should trust our teachers to teach our children less stressfully and give them the tools to help them, rather than forcing them to cram hours of preparing for FCAT down their throats. Then to top it off the tests are graded by people with little training and no background experience in education.
